How to open a private or incognito tab on your browser

Modified on Thu, 4 Jan at 2:12 PM

Opening a private or incognito tab can vary slightly depending on the web browser you are using. Here's how to do it in some of the most popular web browsers:

1. **Google Chrome**:

   - Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the browser window.

   - Select “New incognito window” from the dropdown menu.

   - Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut `Ctrl + Shift + N` on Windows or `Command + Shift + N` on macOS.

2. **Mozilla Firefox**:

   - Click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner.

   - Choose “New Private Window” from the menu.

   - Or use the keyboard shortcut `Ctrl + Shift + P` on Windows or `Command + Shift + P` on macOS.

3. **Microsoft Edge**:

   - Click on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

   - Select “New InPrivate window” from the menu.

   - You can also use `Ctrl + Shift + N` on Windows (Edge does not have a native macOS version as of my last update in April 2023).

4. **Apple Safari**:

   - On macOS, click on “File” in the menu bar at the top of the screen, then select “New Private Window.”

   - You can also use the keyboard shortcut `Command + Shift + N`.

5. **Opera**:

   - Click on the Opera logo in the top-left corner.

   - Select “New private window” from the dropdown menu.

   - Alternatively, use `Ctrl + Shift + N` on Windows or `Command + Shift + N` on macOS.
